The department has well-equipped laboratories for operations like vehicle design, vehicle servicing, automotive sensors and controls, automotive electrical and electronics, computational fluid dynamics, heat power engineering, energy engineering and heat transfer.
The department also has Centers of Excellence for engine testing and diagnosis, CAD/CAM, design, and more to provide hands-on knowledge of the subjects.
The department ensures that it remains at the forefront of the latest developments in the industry with the latest software packages available including Pro-E, CATIA, Unigraphics, ANSYS, ADAMS, LS DYNA. This ensures that the students are well-versed and industry-ready with cutting-edge technology. It would also help them to pursue research and take up projects. Updated facilities are provided to the faculty like sensors tutor, MPFI Engine with Eddy Current Dynamometer, CVT, Automatic Transmission, etc. to provide enhanced knowledge of each system and ways to help use them to ease their work.
The SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers), regularly arranges lectures by eminent personalities from academia and industries. This provides the student with information on the latest techniques and methodologies followed at the industry as well as options to network. Also, frequent visits to various industries are another key activity of the SAE. The SAE also conducts and plays an important role in mobilizing student participation in various quiz competitions and seminars.
The department maintains a close liaison with acclaimed universities and with the industry through a plethora of faculty research and collaborative projects. These activities also include the students, which helps them academically as well as professionally. The department also offers consultancy services to the industry in chassis design, engine design, FEA analysis and CFD simulations.
The department aims to start a fuel testing laboratory, advanced automotive electronics laboratory and a research center for alternate fuels very soon.
